Question Response

According to Ishamael we must completely reform the way we think in order to save the world. "Then here is a program: the story of Genesis must be reversed. First, Cain must stop murdering Abel. This is essential if you're to survive. The Leavers are the endangered species most critical to the world-not because they're humans but because they alone can show the destroyers of the world that there is no one right way to live. And then, of course, you must spit out the fruit of the forbidden tree. You must absolutely and forever relinquish the idea that you know who should live and who should die on this planet." (Quinn 248)

I actually, completely agree with this statement from Ishmael. Humanity does not need to be the top species. We are a type of animal and all animals have the same ranking in society. If we are trying to better ourselves and in turn are destroying other species then the ecological system will be permenantly ruined. This will result in the destruction of the Earth. If the Takers follow the ways of Leaver society there will be a much greater chance of survival. If we stop killing and destroying, all species will continue to evolve as it was meant to be.

QQC #3

Quote: "The Takers accumulate knowledge about what works well for things. The Leavers accumulate knowledge about what works well for people."

Comment: When reading this I realized this is exactly how our culture/society works. We do not try to figure out what works well in terms of living, we try to figure out what new inventions we can add into our lives. We will spend generation after generation looking to find the new "most important item" to later realize it will become outdated. If we keep living like we are now, we will have advanced technology, but we will never have an advanced society.

Question: When will we learn that the "uncivilized" hold all the answers that matter?

Ishmael Interview

Our next assignment having to do with our readings from Ishmael is completing an interview with someone. The format for our interview was fairly simple, the only rule was that it had to pertain with saving the world. Instead of going with questions that have to do with the topic my group was assigned, I chose to go with a more general approach. Since this interview is on the internet where anyone can access it, names will be kept anonymous. The less meaningful parts of the interview were cut to shorten reading time.

Me: So now that you understand what we are doing, are you ready to answer some questions Mr. Bob?
Bob: Uh, I guess so.

Me: Do you believe the world needs to be saved?
Bob: Yes, well to a certain extent.

Me: Do you have any ideas on how this can be accomplished?
Bob: Well, we have to do things to save the planet, you know people want change because no one is doing anything about it.

Me: Well have you done anything to contribute to the world?
Bob: I guess cutting down my showers to 10 minutes might help. I recycle a little too.

Me: What is the environmental issue that is in the most need of change?
Bob: The worst one. Um, I guess pollution. It's the easiest one to get rid of right?

Me: Alright we're done. Thanks for helping me out with you're responses.
Bob: No problem.

QQC #2

Quote: "Everyone in your culture knows that the world wasn't created for [animals]. It was created for man."
"That's right."
"And this is not mythology?"

Comment: The downfall of man is not the stoppage of evolution. On the contrary, the downfall of man is the disease which is greed. How greedy must a species be to be able to claim an entire universe for themselves. Not only do WE human claim it for ourselves, we can say that it was created entirely for us. The rest of the earth, galaxy and universe was made to benefit mankind. Of course it is ours! We have the power to do what we wish. The birds, lizards, fish and insects of the world are merely here for our amusement. Mankind is one of Earth's species. So far we have proven to be the dominant race. This does not mean that we are chosen divinely to do what we wish. But we are man. And our wish. Is your command.

Question: Why are we so flawed?

Creation of Man

My belief for the creation of man is one passed on through many generations. A belief known throughout the world, mostly the same if not exactly. I believe in what my family showed me. What my great grandma participated in with such great passion. I believe we were created by God. His son, Jesus Christ, walked the earth with us humans to show us something. He showed us sacrifice. His sacrifice was to save us and show us we must sacrifice for him as well. I believe I do not need proof.

QQC #1

Quote: "..this question burns like an unquenchable flame in its mind, inflicting a searing pain that does not diminish until the creature lapses into a final lethargy that zookeepers recognize as an irreversible rejection of life."

Comment: According to the narrator's theory combined with Ishmael's theory, we are all being lied to and being held captive. I ran the words through my head as I continued through the reading. We are the captives of the economy, captives of others thoughts on us, and captives of the life long goal of success. This produces a never ending cycle that one can become lost in without the outside knowledge of someone wiser. As the greater public uses all their efforts to be able to climb out of this economic low, we somehow still have the time to think about how others view us. So most think, "Oh, well once I have enough money I can buy this house." Maybe it's not a house. Maybe it's a car, there is no difference. So after this large purchase many find that these luxuries are rather expensive. The cycle continues. And still we are told, "If you work hard in life you will achieve." But achieve what? Most see achieving by how others view you. "He has a nice house, he must have a really good job." But we don't have to worry! We are smarter than the tiger, we don't just pace around in circles asking, "Why, why, why?"

Question: Will mankind ever see that by "striving for excellence" we are really just making it harder to do so?
